  2. An Caitin Beag Simpler Sinister Sweater Knitting Pattern

An Caitin Beag Simpler Sinister Sweater Knitting Pattern

    £6.00

Marna of An Caitin Beag has done it again, introducing this really fun DK Cat sweater to her alreayd awesome set of Cat Cardis and socks!

The Simpler Sinister Sweater is a lovely straightforward knit – a short but effective colourwork section creates a yoke edged with sinsterly glowering cats. It’s designed as a relaxed knit for a cosy winter sweater.

This sweater is worked in DK-weight yarn.

    Choosing colours

A large contrast between the cats and the background will give a bold, dramatic effect, but more subtle colour choices can also be effective. A varigated or speckled yarn can make a fantastic background to the cats.

    Swatching is essential!

Each pattern comes with a code to download a digital version from Ravelry.

    Variations

The pattern includes guidance for adapting it to both steeked and flat-knit cardigans.

    Sizes

The Catdigan pattern comes with instructions for 16 different sizes, from: 44cm / 17.5” to 164cm / 64”.

See table below for sizes and yarn requirements.

  3. An Caitin Beag Sinister Catdigan Knitting Pattern

An Caitin Beag Sinister Catdigan Knitting Pattern

    £6.00

Marna of An Caitin Beag about stole our hearts with this cardigan pattern!

Not enough cats in your life? Or on your cardigan? The Sinister Catdigan will solve that problem. Look at all those smug, judgy little faces glaring out at the world, and plotting all sorts of sinister goings-on!

This cardigan is worked in 4-ply yarn. It works well as a fitted cardigan with little or no positive ease, and also as a more relaxed, looser knit.

The cardigan is knitted in the round, and steeked.  Swatching is essential!

Each pattern comes with a code to download a digital version from Ravelry.

    Variations

You can choose to knit a shaped or straight waist. The pattern includes guidance for converting it to a sweater, and there are also suggestions for adapting it to better fit you.

For the sweater: check the fit as the chest measurement will be approx 2cm/ 0.75” tighter than the cardigan version, so you may want to move up a size.

    Sizes

The Catdigan pattern comes with instructions for 16 different sizes, from: 74cm / 29” to 164cm / 64”.  See product images for a schematic.

You can choose to knit it as a fitted cardigan with little or no positive ease, or move up a size or two for a more relaxed knit.

    Yarn

This cardigan is designed to work with a variety of 4ply/ fingering/ sock weight yarns.  This cardigan is steeked, so a wooly, easily felted, non-superwash 100% wool yarn is ideal. Any 4-ply / fingering / sock weight yarn is suitable, as are Shetland jumper-weight yarns.

If you choose a superwash yarn, a sock yarn containing a little nylon, or a blend that’s not 100% wool you might want stitch the steek with a sewing machine zig-zag stitch or run a second reinforcing line of stitching when you’re reinforcing it. You might also want to catch the floats behind the cats more frequently.

Yarns with more than 25% non-wool content are a bad choice for this project.

If you’re unsure whether a yarn will work well for this pattern try making a small colourwork swatch, and cutting a steek in it. Two repeats of the cat-chart, along with the steek stitches, should be enough to give you a good idea.

    CoCo knits Sweater Workshop Book

    £38.00

With over 30 years of knitting, designing, and teaching experience – Julie Weisenberger presents her first book: Cocoknits Sweater Workshop which includes nine new designs. The book expands on the simple, seamless, top-down styling we’ve come to expect from Cocoknits.

More than just a collection, however, this book explains the Cocoknits Method – a system of tracking knitting progress in your own easy to follow customized worksheet. Unlike most traditional patterns that create flat shapes, the tailored style of construction in these patterns creates truly three dimensional garments that impart a great fit upon completion.

All designs are worked from the neckline down, so once the neck and yoke area are established, the knitter can just cruise through generating the sweater and not worry about counting or losing track of their place in the pattern. Another advantage of knitting top-down is the ability to try on your garment as you work, to ensure the fit is right.

In addition to all new patterns, Julie has dedicated a section of the book to an in-depth guide to choosing the right patterns for your figure type with considerations for colorwork, textured stitches, and hemlines all working in concert to create the right silhouette for you.

From modern haps to traditional kilt hose; from Fairisle hoodies to cabled cardigans; the designs are arranged in four “stories” each of which explores a different island locale. With their roots in Islay’s distinctive history and culture, Kate’s designs suggest the rich breadth and depth of inspiration the island affords, from the archaeological legacy of the Lords of the Isles to the poetry and song of the Islay bards. In addition to Kate’s patterns, this book brings together beautiful photography of Islay by Tom Barr with essays by four contributors who share their varied local expertise. Gordon Yates introduces Islay’s wildlife, Anna MacQuarrie explores the important legacy of Gaelic in the island landscape, Jane Hunter explores Islay’s geology through the intriguing medium of tweed and stitches, while Susan Campbell tells us more about the island’s handcrafts. 34. Kaerlig Mitten Pattern

    Kaerlig Mitten Pattern

    £4.50

Kærlig From Ysolda's Knitworthy 2 collection, these fingerless mitts are just gorgous and have an interesting construction method that follows the shape of the hand. Simple rib and garter stitch highlight the architectural lines and show off the subtle depth of semi-solid yarns. Using only a small amount of yarn they are a fun way to use up left over sock yarn.

The mitts begin at the cuff which is worked in the round using the magic loop technique. A provisional cast on is used to add stitches for the hand which is worked back and forth in garter stitch with an I-cord edge and decreased across the live cuff stitches. Instead of a traditional gusset, shaping for the thumb is added by working across the hand and remaining cuff stitches, decreasing where they join to create a triangle of garter stitch across the palm. The remaining garter stitches are joined to the provisional cast on stitches above the thumb with a three needle bind off and triangular gusset that is worked downwards to join the remaining thumb stitches. The thumbs are then worked in the round. The only cast-on and bound-off edges are at the base of the cuff and the top of the thumb and the only finishing required before gifting is weaving in the ends and blocking.

The pattern includes detailed step-by-step photos.

  40. Leafy Brioche Pattern Book

    Leafy Brioche Pattern Book

    £18.00
This beautifully presented book contains 8 patterns that use a two-color brioche leaf motif. Winter Birch adds a double knit stem, Bonfire combines brioche with garter stitch, Linden Leaf has a linen stitch background, Autumn Lace uses an eyelet increase, Primavera begins with a very small leaf and each consecutive leaf grows bigger, Bay Leaf is elongated and Forest Wreath uses the Under Dutch Skies leaf motif in the round. The book includes both charted and written instructions. It also includes a download code for a digital copy. Stephen West describes this book as “Nancy Marchant, the Queen of Brioche, brings brioche stitch into uncharted territory with the elegant Leafy Brioche collection. She provides the knitter with beautiful charts and explanations so we can visually follow her clever patterns and innovative stitch motifs. Some of the leafy designs combine brioche stitch with other textures like linen and garter stitch. This playful interplay of colour and texture is just a sampling of the infinite possibilities with brioche. The masterful photography and signature styling by Alexandra Feo perfectly accentuates the fanciful designs." From Michelle: Having just started using brioche myself, I can't recommend a visit to Nancy's own site where she has step by step tutorials that help you learn brioche from the start or take your skills to the next level. Catch the brioche bug and and knit some Leafy Brioche! Images from Leafy Brioche, copyright of Alexandra Feo.

    Milarrochy Heids by Kate Davies

    £18.00
This beautiful book from Kate Davies designs is probably the most beautiful book of hats we have ever seen here at The Loveliest Yarn Company! This book contains 15 glorious patterns from thirteen of knittings talented designers. Kate Davies loves hat-knitting, and when she developed Milarrochy Tweed – a yarn named after one of her favourite Loch Lomond locations – she knew it was time to create a book of hat designs. Milarrochy Tweed’s complex, tonal shades make it ideal for colourwork of all kinds, so Kate invited twelve friends to join her in the challenge of creating a range of hats of rich variety and hue. Heid is the Scots word for head, and inside these pages you’ll find fifteen fabulous heids to choose from. From Ute Vos’s simple stripes to Virginia Sattler-Reimer’s complex kaleidoscopic crown; from Felicity Ford’s exuberant Featherheid to Emily Williams’ stunning double-knitted Tarradale, the heids in these pages are as varied as their creators. Established designers such as Ella Gordon and Dianna Walla meet emerging talent like Justyna Haberkowa and Sarah Mackay, drawing creative inspiration from landscape and location, flora and fauna, childhood memory and medieval architecture. With an introduction by Kate, and stunning photography around Loch Lomond by Tom Barr, this book is sure to bring you a warm and happy heid. All images are copyright of Tom Barr.

Pick and Mix from The Crochet Project

    £12.00
Using this book, you can create your own completely unique design by pairing your choice of sweater, cardigan or hat with your choice of four colourwork patterns and your choice of four main stitch patterns. They all work beautifully together without the need for any extra maths. Jo and Kat have even included the maths and pattern writing assumptions so you can have a go at designing your own stitch patterns if you’d like to. Each stitch pattern is written and charted, and lots of advice has been included throughout the book to help you create the perfect item even if it is your first garment. Although the colourwork looks complicated, each pattern uses only one colour at a time (no stranding) and there are some tips on how to avoid getting into a tangle. There’s also the chance to make a patch pocket or a hat to get practice with the colourwork pattern before you dive in. This book is for everybody and every body. The patterns are suitable for age 2 upwards, are all unisex and offer inclusive sizing and fitting options. This is a crochet book.

  58. Strokkur Sweater Pattern

    Strokkur Sweater Pattern

    £6.00
Strokkur was inspired by traditional Icelandic Lopapeysas: cozy sweaters with colourful yoke patterns. First made for a trip to Iceland a few years ago, the original has travelled with me ever since. Knit in Icelandic wool it’s been my ‘go to’ garment for chilly, damp days. Another trip to Iceland, and the fact that the original sweater was looking rather well loved, meant it was time to make a replacement. This time I actually took notes, so now you can knit one of your own. Strokkur features a more refined fit than many traditional yoked sweaters. It is worked from the bottom up with gentle waist shaping. The yoke patterning is fairly short; to flatteringly frame the face and avoid bagginess around the underarm. Short rows are worked both above and below the stranded colourwork to create a scooped neckline. Shown in size 35½” with one inch of positive ease. Images copyright Ysolda.

  61. The Book of Haps

    The Book of Haps

    £19.99
This magnificent book from Kate Davies and a host of other renowned designers is a detailed introduction to the wonderful world of haps. A hap is a Scottish dialect word for a simple shawl or wrap. Haps have a particular association with the Shetland islands where, for more than a century, they were knitted for everyday wear as well as for sale. Combining textile history with contemporary design, this book explores the story of the hap through five beautifully illustrated essays, and thirteen stunning patterns. While the first part of the book looks to the past for inspiration, exploring the many different contexts in which haps were made and worn, the book’s second half acts as a springboard to the future, as designers from around the world present their own interpretations of the hap. From Nevada and Finland to Reyjavik, and Burra Isle, the patterns in these pages are as distinctive and varied as their designers’ locales. Haps may well surprise you: they can be square, triangular, or hexagonal, incorporating lace, cables, or colour. Though haps are, by definition, functional, wearable textiles, you’ll find they can also be elegant and fascinating, graphic and abstract. Whatever your knitterly interests, you’ll find the Book of Haps an endless source of inspiration and a canvas for your creativity. Each book also includes a download code for a digital version. The book contains five beautiful crochet shawl designs worked in a variety of indie and commercial yarns, three worked in 4ply weight and two in lace weight yarns.
  67. The West Highland Way by Kate Davies

The West Highland Way by Kate Davies

    £19.99
Kate Davies and Tom Barr live by Scotland’s best-loved long-distance walking route: the West Highland Way. In this collaborative creative project they celebrate their home, their workplace, and the landscape which inspires them every day. Kate began by creating a collection of twelve hand-knit designs, each with its own distinctive story to tell. Balanced equally between garments and accessories, you might choose to knit a tweedy cardigan which echoes the mossy palette of Conic Hill, a delicate jumper recalling a favourite plant found on Rannoch Moor, or a shawl sparked by the energy of the Highlands’ first “electric village”. Each design is paired with an exploratory essay which sets Kate’s designs and inspiration in their richer context. From Rob Roy’s romantic (mis)representation to the beautiful songs of Donnchadh Bàn; from Loch Lomond’s built environment to ways of seeing Rannoch Moor, Kate’s writing reveals the West Highland Way as, first and foremost, a social landscape with an important cultural history. Kate’s words and designs are accompanied by Tom’s stunning photography, depicting the West Highland Way in all seasons of the year. Why not turn these pages to walk, read and knit with Kate and Tom? Open up this book, join them on their journey, and make your own West Highland Way.
