Designer Tips

  1. 1. Just get on and do it
  2. 2. You don’t have to tell anyone you are doing it
  3. 3. Think about the stitches you want to try and start
  4. 4. If it doesn’t work, frog it and start agai
  1. Top Tip: Perhaps don’t start with a garment or something that requires multiple sizes

Mechanics for getting into magazines

  1. 1. Publications issue Calls for Submissions
  2. 2. Check for email lists that you can join
  3. 3. Get in touch with the magazines directly if you can’t find where they issue their Design calls
  4. 4. Work with the theme & details provided
  5. 5. Don’t be offended at rejection
  6. 6. Design something you like and if it doesn’t work for the magazine, you can still publish it
  7. 7. You can also get ideas from the theme that you might not submit but can then publish them yourself
  8. 8. Look at back issues of the publication to see the style and type of patterns that they like

Sarah’s best advice: Don’t listen to people who tell you you are doing it wrong, as long as you enjoy it!
